Van ROVELINE
SOMETHING TO REMEMBER...
At the end of the seventies, we, Roland and Eveline Beunekens, came, via our son Peter, in contact with the Dobermann. As a result of this contact, we fell in love with the breed, and the Dobermann started to take over all our other hobbies.
The first Dobermann we ever bought was a black bitch from Nathan van‘t Rapenland & Aida van de Viskeshoeve. Her name was Farah van de Guskeshoeve. Farah was our first winning Lotto-ticket. She was a beautiful, elegant but powerfull bitch with a very explosive character. With Farah we visited our first ever dog show, which we won. In her career, she won several shows and even became best Belgian black bitch. We mated her to the top Dutch male Hertog Alpha van le Dobry, which resulted in an even three black males and three black females. The owners of the males were not interested in shows.
We kept all three bitches Hera, Hiya-Hebe and Hyndi. This resulted in our second winning Lotto ticket. Hera and Hiya were the winning bitches of their generation in Belgium and the rest of Europe. Hera was powerfull with a strong character, Hiya was more elegant with the explosive character of her mother. Hera did not have a lot of success in her first two litters and as our friend Mauro of the Rio Bianco kennels in Italy begged us to sell her to him, we agreed. Hera together with Leila van Roveline (Baron Bryan vom Harro’sberg & Jenna van Roveline) turned out to be highly succesfull to the Rio Bianco kennels.
Hiya-Hebe was a beautifull bitch, a real show-dog. The longer she had to stay in the ring the better she presented herself. The ideal bitch for us beginners to learn how to present a Dobermann. Actually she presented herself. We will never forget the Bundessieger-Show in Dortmund where she won the CACIB. Surrounded by all the visitors at the show she kept presenting, the only thing that moved was her heart-beat, a wonderfull thing to see. Hiya also went on to become a top class breeding bitch.
Meanwhile a second bitch had joined Farah in the Roveline kennels: Elfiet, a black bitch out of the Viskeshoeve lines. Elfiet was mated to the, at that time, top winning Belgian male, Falko van de Insberg, which resulted in Hattie van Roveline. Hattie was also mated to Hertog Alpha van le Dobry. This match gave us Jacques and Jenna van Roveline.
Jacques had a strong impact on the breed in Sweden. Although he was not a shining star himself, he has produced several outstanding Dobes in Sweden and “created” a few kennels through his off-spring.
Jenna, mated to Baron Bryan vom Harro’sberg, is the mother of Lema and Lucifer and so she became our third winning Lotto ticket.
To avoid all mis-understanding, the rules for names of dogs with an official FCI-Pedigree are as follows in Belgium. Every YEAR another letter of the alphabet. So if a certain breeder has 10 litters in 1987, when the letter for all names was L, this breeder would have had 10 litters starting with a L. The above mentioned L-litter of Jenna was born 19/02/1987, which resulted in Lucifer, Lema and Laila van Roveline. For information on Laila, see Rio Bianco Dobermann kennel in Italy.
Lucifer van Roveline was, in our opinion, one of the best Dobermann’s that came out of our kennels. He could have had, like his sister Lema, a bit more “presence” in the ring, but he had a beautiful parallel head, long neck, heavy bones, strong short back and a lot af nobility. Due to a car accident he had a short life and only mated 27 times, which resulted in 2 World Champions (Tequila Mali del Citone and Queeny van Roveline ), 1 Youth World Champion (Pavlo van Roveline) and several International and National Champions. We are sure that many breeders, who did not believe in him during his life, have regretted not using him.
Lema van Roveline, a beautifull strong and elegant bitch with an extra-ordinary mentality was and will always be, one of our favourites. If she would have had the “ presence” in the ring like Hiya Hebe, she would have been a super winner herself. Her outstanding character, (Angekört ZVA), however, makes her one of our all time favourites. She also was a super mother of several champions, whom you will meet later.
On the 19/03/1987 the next L-litter was born out of Hiya Hebe van Roveline with Ali vom Langenhorst. This combination was recommended to us by our dear friend Dr. P. Pezzano. Being one of the admirers of Hiya Hebe, he booked a puppy (Lia Lorena van Roveline) out of that combination, which resulted in a “boost” for his kennel del Citone. The mating Ali & Hiya Hebe was the fourth winning Lotto ticket for the Roveline kennels. The two sisters Lia Lorena and Lady Levina, together with Lema were the dominating bitches of their era.
Lady Levina elegant, a bit lightly made, but what a “showdog”. Lia Lorena, strong, elegant, beautifull head, could have been a bit more of a“showdog”, like here mum Hiya Hebe. Both bitches were very succesfull for their owners as breeding bitches.
One year later we mated Hiya Hebe to Falko de los Valientes. Although in hindsight it was a mistake to use Falko before we knew his HD result (HD3), this mating gave us Myndy Maja van Roveline who won several CAC shows in Belgium and abroad. She also participated at numerous IPO contests with much success.
In 1990 we had the first Lema litter in combination with Fela vom Franckenhorst,
This combination gave us three brown males, Ozzy, Odin and Orson, and one black bitch Olga van Roveline. Ozzy, good character, but not mother’s prettiest, Odin (owned by the Wieteke’s Hoeve kennels) had some show success and was later sold to Greece, Orson, a real “macho” male, was very strongly built and extremely dominant in the ring. He won everything there was to win except the World FCI title in Madrid where he became Vice World Champion. Surely one of the greatest of his generation, with excellent results in breeding, in Italy where he lived, and throughout the rest of Europe. Olga the small black bitch of that combination was also a dog with very high working qualities.
The P-Litter, from Nathy van Roveline & Quirinus van Neerlands Stam was a very even litter of high standard with two CAC-CACIB winners Pam & Pascal, and two CAC-winners Paco and Pathy.
Being succesfull by mixing the Franckenhorst lines with Roveline, (see Lema & Fela), we brought Kara vom Raubenstein (sire x dam) into our kennels and mated her with Lucifer. This fifth winning Lotto-ticket gave us World Champion Queeny van Roveline. A beautifull Lucifer type black bitch with tremendous nobility, body and expression. Only her movement, (although much better than her mother’s), could have been better. Queeny participated at 27 shows, won 23 of them, and was twice second, once third and once fourth.
On the 01/12/1992 the Q-litter of Judifax Fanthomas & Lema van Roveline was born. Three males, (Questor, Quarlos and Quiroz), and three females, (Quercia, called Quian, Quelsey and Quirsha) Questor, Quarlos, Quercia & Quelsey went to Sweden.
Thord & Lisa and Jurgen & Mia, who were and are long-time friends and admirers of our Dobermann’s, enjoyed much success with these dogs in Sweden and throughout Europe. Even in their later years (at 9 years old) the two bitches Quian and Quelsey were winning shows in Sweden. Our Swedish friends also lent us both bitches for breeding and as you will see further on, they were also succesfull producers.
In September 1994 Lema gave birth to only one pup, Shogun van Roveline, from the mating with Ninjo von Norden Stam. A few days earlier Queeny had delivered 10 pups by Judifax Fanthomas. Lema was given half of Queeny’s pups and both bitches lived in harmony in the house, feeding all eleven pups together. Shogun, the Lema son, injured a hind leg as a pup, and later he had to have a rather serious operation on that leg. The owners of Shogun, Heinz-Gunther and Heike Grimm of the Brandenburg kennels, long time friends ever since Heinz handled Lady Levina in the showring, did everything that was possible to cure Shogun’s leg, but due to this injury his rear movement was unstable. The longer he had to move, the more one could see his problem. Never the less he had a sucessfull career with several big wins and champion titles. He also produced several champion progeny, especially in Russia and Yugoslavia.
Saskia (Russia) and Sydney(Hungary), two bitches of the Queeny & Fanthomas litter, gave us some nice results in the former Eastern countries. They both were very beautifull and elegant dogs with good results in both shows and breeding. The last litters produced in the Roveline kennels were the V – litters of
Quelsey van Roveline & Randy van ‘t Sabbatsveld and Quercia van Roveline & Alfa Adalante del Citone. Both sisters produced only small litters but some very good quality. Quercia had two pups, Victor and Vicky van Roveline. They both went to the UK to give the Gaindyke kennels of John and Lynn the ultimate boost. At this stage Victor van Roveline has gained for the fourth year Top Dobermann SIRE/STUD in the UK.
Vaya van Roveline out of Quelsey had several big successes in Europe. In 2001 she won the Belgian Club Show and became an Internatinal Champion.
We do not know all the results of our off-spring, because not all Roveline owners kept us informed, and the pups were spread all over the world. From around 320 pups bred in our kennels, more than 55 of them won at least 1 Championship Show CAC.
This is a short resume of 20 years of Dobermann breeding in the Roveline kennels. Only a few people have the luck to win the Lotto. Rare are those who win it several times, so perhaps we have after all used a bit of knowledge on our choice of matings together with some help and guidance from several of our Dobermann friends. Special thanks to all Roveline owners. Without their interest in the breed and their belief in the Roveline lines, it would not have been possible to achieve these outstanding results. The past years, when we thought we should leave breeding to younger people, we missed something in our lives. Through the Dobermann and our breeding we made real good friends all over the World. We miss it, more than we thought, so, early in 2003 we will start breeding again with Int Ch. Vaya van Roveline. Let’s hope with continued success…
We hesitated for a long time, to appear on the World Wide Web, however, we feel that, Dobermann lovers of today, might like to see some of the ancestors of the present day Dobermann, which we bred, or are related to dogs we bred.
